Colleen’s Birthday Gift - Colleen Cares Contributes to Donate Life

On Colleen’s birthday, she performed acts of kindness for others. At our Celebration of Life, her heart surgeon, Dr. Phil Thrush, described such acts. He recalled Colleen, during her long hospital stay awaiting a new heart, creating birthday signs for the nurses. This speaks volumes about our beloved Colleen.

Today, for her birthday, the Colleen Cares organization made a $5,000 donation to Donate Life, made possible by your contributions.

Donate Life is a nationwide umbrella group to increase, encourage and support organ donation. Through this awareness, Colleen celebrated 27 birthdays with us.

Speaking on behalf of Donate Life, Marion Shuck, Vice President of Governmental Affairs and External Relations at Gift of Hope, shared this encouragement at Colleen’s Celebration of Life:

“We coordinate the organ and tissue donation process. We strive to save and enhance as many lives as possible through organ transplantation. More importantly, we strive to give all families the opportunity for donations so that their loved one’s life does not end. It continues like this beautiful legacy you have attributed to Colleen today...

...we don't have enough folks who are registered to be donors. We need support so that we don't lose another amazing woman like Colleen because a heart didn't arrive in time.”
